HOW TO PEEL AN ONION WITHOUT CRYING.

Curated by The Art Shelter Collective (Lana Zubović, Feride Gormez and Svenja Michelle Behle)

The collective's second exhibition, titled ‘How to peel an onion without crying’, explores the nature of self and consciousness by expanding the perception of human identity through various art forms. Through an exploration of the Onion Theory (Onion Model), The Art Shelter views identity as a relational and intersecting product of culture, personal and collective experiences, language, belief systems, and habitat, among others. Beyond these culturally produced layers of identity lies a more innate, core level of values and assumptions

The collective’s three members, with diverse cultural backgrounds, embody this complexity at its core. By inviting a group of artists and performers with varying practices that align with The Art Shelter’s mission to amplify a mutually beneficial exchange through public events, each artist is given a space to explore and represent a different layer of identity, collectively aiming to nurture and explore the self. The exhibition aims to foster collective awareness and encourage curiosity and progressive, creative thinking about both the self and the world. When all layers are stripped away, what remains?
