Drawing With Charcoal

Life Drawing Dublin

Drawing With Charcoal // A 1 Day Workshop with Artist Sorca O'Farrell // Saturday May 9th // 10:00 - 16:00

Skillsets is delighted to welcome artist Sorca O'Farrell to present a 1 day workshop exploring the expressive medium of charcoal.

This workshop begins by introducing Sorca's work and what inspires her, followed by a quick demonstration to show the versatility of charcoal, combining different mark-making techniques which can be used to convey atmosphere and describe subject matter.  Participants will then experiment with some charcoal exercises before moving on to work on a larger drawing.  Sorca will guide participants in the texture, tone, and distinctive mark-making potential of charcoal.

In preparation for the workshop participants are encouraged to look at trees, or groups of trees, that catch their attention in the lead-up to the day, and to bring photographs and/or small sketches which will be used as a starting point for a large drawing. This will incorporate areas of light and dark, using textures and marks to build up a personal description of their chosen tree or tree group. By the end of the day participants will have discovered the many possibilities of working with this magic and versatile medium.
